The following poem is my tribute
to the legendary reggae artist and
people's person. Robert Nester Marley
affectionately known as
"Bob Marley"
Assassination attempt
on his life was made
for deeds that he had done
He was feared
he was beguiled
for the lyrical content of his songs
He spoke truth to power
no wonder he was feared
The need to battle ignorance
he found this crystal clear
Through the lyrics of his songs
he cried let freedom ring
He was Jamaica's ambassador
For reggae he was king
A freedom fighter
indeed he was
Yet by many he was misunderstood
Because he was judged
By his religion
for the locks upon his head
not for his deeds of good
His goal it was to liberate
those with captivated minds
Enslaved on the plantation of ignorance
By the Massas of our time
His lyrics of much candor
span the global continent
Alas he died at age thirty-six
His life was one well spent
We LOVE YOU BOB
Washington Stevens
