Tribute to a King

Tribute to a King

This poem I wrote in 1980 as a young twenty one year old living on the small island of Jamaica; my island home.

Martin, Martin Luther King
Martin, Martin Luther King
We give thanks and praises unto God
For inspiring you
To deliver America
Shine a light that's oh so true
And though it's history now
The works that you have done
We wish that you was still around
So we could say
Say well done

Martin, Martin Luther King
Martin, Martin Luther King
Perfect for the time you was
You stood out in the crowd
You replaced our despair with hope
You made us oh so proud
And though the works
That you have done
May now be history
How could we dare forget
You live within our memory

Martin, Martin Luther King
Martin, Martin Luther King
Here I am send me
You answered to the call
And with your peaceful protest
You marched like they did around the Jericho wall
With courage, with tenacity
You stood and faced the foe
We're here to pay you homage
We want to let the whole world
That we love
yes we love
Yes we love you

That we love
yes we love
Yes we love you
Martin Luther King Yea

Loss of a True Princess

like a comet that illuminates the sky at night
So you illuminated the world through your short lived life
Beautiful, so beautiful you were both inside and out
Your inner beauty my Princess made the whole world shout

The world shouted in dismay at your passing
Fond memories of you remains with us everlasting
Your beautiful smile, your UN-hypocritical style
Your concerned kindness, which seemed so pure
In the depth of our souls will indeed forever endure

Vision of you afforded us through modern technology
Leaves you vivid in our minds; here with us in virtual reality
You were like a breath of fresh air
Purification to the atmosphere
Likened to the mountain strong
A shelter to the suffering throng

You were like treasure; found at the bottom of the sea
I tie for you this ribbon around the old oak tree
Your death left the world in a clouded mist
Princess Diana you will be forever missed
